  1. Nice idea, nice site. I reckon single-issue campaigns are the word these days.

  2. I already try to crawl along below 70. How can I find out about the difference between doing 70 and 65? And then between 65 and 60??

  3. We have added a page for 60max mhp and there are significant savings in terms of cost, safety and emissions if you stick at 60!

  4. What a great idea! Have been using the eco-driving tips and have added 80-100 miles usage from my car, so be great to be able to spread the word.

  5. Not a good idea. First of all the amount of time you get the opportunity to get up to 70 these days is limited. Secondly i am fed up with this anti-car lobby as heavy industry is the real enemy. Car manufacturers are one of the few that have invested millions cleaning up their act. I would suggest a campaign to remove tax on biofuels instead if you are concerned about the environment. I will continue to scream the living daylights out of my old tatty skoda in every gear.

  6. I know I’m not a fast driver but I do exceed the limit too often. making this commitment will change this bad habit once and for all time I hope.

  7. I’d love all 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s to be regraded too!

  8. It would appear that Mr Page is happy for everyone else to do their bit, as it means he doesn’t have to do his. Well good luck with that. I instead will be doing my bit along with other people that give a damn about the future. Sites like this should receive all the support we can muster!

  9. Greener, safer, happier. Thanks

  11. fits nicely with my ETA sticker and my co-op eco insurance. Can’t quite give up driving yet but am taking steps!

  12. Nice web site, offering an accessible first step. Good luck and thanks. I’ll pass it on.

  13. Driving at 70mph is not only greener but safer!

    — Anna Milner · Mar 5, 04:14 PM · #

  14. Why don’t we limit all cars to 80mph. Why have sports cars that can exceed the national speed limit by 85mph (Limited to 155mph),some even can achive 130mph above that. Owners who want to race simply book Siverstone where the chip is removed. Once completed the chip is then re-inserted.

  15. This campaign is typical of the completely fatuous attempts to “save the planet” by unscientific, gullible people who want to drive with a halo over themselves and feel self righteous. It achieves nothing except conflict. Do something useful instead!

    — Peter Fisher · Mar 9, 05:22 PM · #

  16. Dear Peter,

Sorry you feel this way. Can you say why?

The campaign is based in science from a Cambridge research group. We are not trying to be moral just practical trying to share some knowledge that a lot of people are not aware of. Surely saving money, lives and carbon emissions are worthwhile things to pursue.

I have two young children and am genuinely scared about the future for them and would like to mitigate the risk.

If you don’t believe the climate change research then all I can do is refer you to the IPCC research.

  17. Not a very smart idea.

The real polluters are big industry – specifically power plant operators:
    http://www.wwf.org.au/news/n223/

Why don’t we all just stop breathing – that will reduce CO2 emissions as well!!!

But seriously, we all need to stop consuming so much junk and eliminate our desire to get that next new toy – which will more than likely consume more electricity.

A better idea is to diligently investigate alternative energy sources and DO something about incorporating these into your daily life!

    IPCC ? – don’t be fooled by these politicians…

  18. I also have the local speed camera sticker advising ‘Back Off- I’m Keeping My Speed Down’. Some drivers have done just that too!

    — Geoff · Jul 31, 11:51 AM · #

  19. This is a fantastic idea actually – in fact, about 6 months ago we were having a discussion in our tea room about fuel efficiency. One colleague used to drive everywhere at 80mph and was bemoaning the fuel costs. I told him to try driving at 70 mph instead. After a few weeks he shook my hand to thank me – he fills up his car an entire day less frequently than before – an extra day’s driving and less queuing for fuel too – and less money! Keep up the good work.
