The average car emits 14% less carbon at 70mph than it does at 80mph.

Half of all car on motorways exceed the speed limit.

41% of road transport CO2 comes from motorway journeys. This is 8% of all UK CO2 emissions.

If we all drove at 70mph we would collectively save 1 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Every driver can reduce CO2 emissions by choosing to stick to 70mph.

This would equate to 15% of the 6.8 Metric Tonnes total savings that the Government has calculated we need to reduce from transport by 2010.

A recent report Getting the Genie back in the Bottle from the UK Energy Research Centre suggests that a significant contribution to this goal could come from enforcing speed restrictions.
